About the Project

To translate Motel One’s guest experience into the digital space, the beOne App introduced Online Check-In and a Mobile Key.

Guests can now complete the entire arrival process in the app and go straight to their room without waiting at the front desk.

Challenge

Modern guests expect a fast and independent arrival, while traditional check-in still relies on queues and physical key cards. Motel One needed a digital alternative that felt simple, reliable, and aligned with the brand. The challenge was to design an intuitive flow that works for all users, integrates with on-site hardware, and provides clear guidance for first-time guests.

My Role

I worked within the UI/UX team on the Online Check-In and Mobile Key experience. My focus was on shaping the user journey, designing key interface elements, refining interactions, and integrating the features into the existing design system.

Design Vision

The goal was to make the digital arrival feel as natural as walking through your own front door. Check-in steps are presented in a calm, focused layout. The Mobile Key was designed to resemble a physical room card — familiar, minimal, and instantly understandable. Motion and subtle haptic feedback reinforce trust and signal successful actions. Clear onboarding supports guests who are using the feature for the first time.

Outcome

We designed a simple, guided check-in flow that takes guests from preparing their stay to unlocking their room. A brief onboarding explains how to use the Mobile Key, which mirrors the physical room card for easy recognition. Unlocking works via Bluetooth with clear visual and haptic feedback, and both features were integrated into the existing design system for a consistent experience. The result is a faster, more flexible arrival and reduced workload at reception.
